Long Distance, No More: Steve and Alma

First of all, I call our love story as God’s story. Believe it or not, I made a dreamboard and soulmate wishlist prior to meeting him. I would stare at that dream board every night and pray to God before I go to sleep for that special someone. I knew in my heart that my soulmate is just out there searching and looking for me. I believed in fate, or destiny, or whatever you want to call it.

Lo and behold, on the 26th of November 2013 I finally met him.

I worked as a pharmacist in Canada at that time. He, on the other hand, is a mechanical engineer from Houston, Texas. Of all the places you could think of, we met in a plane! I was flying to Tampa, Florida on that day and I had a layover in Houston, while he had a business meeting in Canada and was flying back to Houston that same day. In short, we had the same Texas-bound flight that early November morning in Calgary, Canada.

This might seem weird, but while I was sitting in the boarding area, something told me to go to the washroom for no reason at all. So I did! As I passed him, he got a whiff of my perfume and (according to him) that’s the first time he noticed me!

As the plane was boarding and I was approaching my seat, this guy suddenly stopped me and said “Excuse me miss, do you speak English?” I said yes. Then he asked me again, “What perfume are you wearing?” I was taken aback by the question but I answered anyway—resulting to our first ever conversation. By the way, I am seated behind him. For some reason that I don’t understand, I was feeling a little jealous that time thinking that he’ll get that perfume for his wife or girlfriend. And so the four hour flight to Houston was pretty much unusual. Until…

As we’re about to land in Houston, he suddenly handed me his phone and to my surprise he wrote a little note there introducing himself and how he would be delighted to get to know me and all.

That’s how it all started. The road to where we are now is not one without bumps. The past two years we’ve been together was so beautiful despite the fact that we had to be apart from each other: me, being in Canada and him being in the US. Long distance relationship is tough but it also strengthened our bond more. As the famous saying goes, we lived happily ever after! We’re beyond blessed to be finally together for the rest of our lives!
